Black on Black

When in doubt, go all black. Although it can be seen as a morbid color choice, an all-black look is nothing less than chic. Worthy black investments: a nice, sleek black blazer (Rag & Bone can do no wrong); a versatile pair of black platform heels or booties (I refuse to wear non-platform heeled anything due to my lack of catwalk skills); black flats;  a black leather jacket; and an everyday black leather bag.

I'm OTP (on the prowl) for a cute black velvet dress, and this one from Topshop might be the one. The leather ASOS shirt collar/necklace is a pretty/punk alternative to a plain old necklace.

Aren't the holidays all about self-indulgence? This Christmakkuh, what I really want is a French Bulldog. And the Urban Decay "Naked" eyeshadow palette, blush colored loafers, utility heeled booties, a kick ass metallic blazer, anything velvet, copious amounts of hot chocolate, constant Christmas songs, an awesome iPhone case from Dannijo (if I get the case, I'll get the phone too, right?) and an oh-so-cozy sheepskin rug.

My friends who have the "Naked" palette have nothing but great things to say -- I'm trying to get more in touch with my feminine side and try new makeup; the same routine gets boring after a while. It comes with a stay-put magical potion, which is a reassuring tool to have for long nights out. And I love loafers. I have a couple pairs already, and I'm ready to add to my collection. I'm still trying to break in my Dolce Vita leopard pair, but so far they're wearing me instead of the other way around. These J. Crew patent leather ones are the perfect balance between bossy loafer + feminine color without looking too precious.

I used to think of velvet as a very '90's material, but it's making a comeback in a great way. I love the gold color of the Club Monaco skirt.

Yes, I'm one of those girls who loves Christmas music and the whole kit and kaboodle of festive decorations and twinkling lights littering every street corner.
Happy Holidays!

Winter Wonderland

Winter Wonderland

One shoulder dress

Forever21 knit sweater
$23 - forever21.com

H m sweater
£25 - hm.com

RLX long puffer jacket
$398 - shopbop.com

Long socks
$65 - neimanmarcus.com

Stuart Weitzman rubber boots
$298 - jildorshoes.com

Foley Corinna mid city tote
$293 - zappos.com

Madewell chain necklace
$88 - madewell.com

RLX circle scarve
$88 - saksfifthavenue.com

As always, I enjoy compiling a random assortment of things that I like. While trying to find the perfect NYE outfit, I came across this amazing one shoulder dress. It also comes in royal and black; definitely a necessary purchase. For outerwear, the glossy tricot fabric on the RLX puffer adds a chic touch to the typical down jacket. This Essie holiday collection features great colors, and as for the circle scarve, well, no one can ever go wrong with throwing one on, especially a casual thermal-like one like this. It's also cashmere, so it will keep you warm during those snowy days. Speaking of snow, it's hard to find snow boots I like, but these Stuart Weitzman rubbers caught my eye. Oh, and don't laugh, but I had to add a picture of the (skinny) peppermint mocha latte from Starbucks because I'm seriously addicted to it and it is a holiday essential--make sure you go try one because you will not be disappointed. I don't even like peppermint...

As a side note, everyone should go sign up for style mint (stylemint.com). For only $30, you can get really cool designed T-shirts by MK+A Olsen. First, they'll ask you a bunch of short questions about what you prefer wearing in order to try to figure out your style. After, they will make suggestions on T-shirts you may like. You can search other looks they may not have suggested, too. Too awesome. Shop on.

Happy Holidays! Xx, Alissa

Insane in the MembRAIN

I don't know about you, but this rain is driving me craaaaaazy .  I've been keeping count and I think it has rained every Thursday (except for two times) since we've been back at school.  I mean, I knew I'd be expecting cold weather in Boston, but I didn't anticipate this much rain.  Regardless, I was never a fan of rain boots.  What's cute about rubber boots that make your feet sweat, anyway? I refused to buy a pair, so I was forced to wear the Burberry rain boots my aunt bought me for Christmas. Although I've been anti-rain boots, there's nothing worse than having your feet soaked from being stubborn enough to not wear them.
Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.
Rain or no rain, I'm soOoOo over these flashy boots. And guess what? Christmas is here in nineteen days.  This time, I'll let auntie know the boots I'll actually enjoy wearing second time around.

Old boots -- You're being donated

The better boots:
Loeffler Randall
I absolutely love the lace-up booties, except I'm too short to wear them.
The zipper on the tall ones with a little wedge make them instantly chic.
These Jimmy Choo for Hunter ones are on my wish list
Or you can keep it classic with any of these Hunter boots.
I love all of these colors. Even the fleecy welly sock over the boot adds a nice touch.

Stay dry this Winter.

Alissa

Winter Formal 2K11: Rock On

Iiiiiit's formal time! Attention sorority bitties: Asos makes your online shopping  experience 10,000 times easier and fun. In lieu of formal season, the online retail geniuses put together a "find your perfect party [slash formal] dress" feature. The categories appropriately define the multitude of styles that us lucky girls get to play with; from "pretty cool,""disco bell," "super styler," to "anti-dress rebel," this site has got your formalwear aesthetic covered. I found myself oogling over the "disco bell" choices, I'm digging the metallic look. These are my three favorite dresses, and I made my own sub categories. Rock on!

Pirate Bling

Anyone who knows me relatively well knows that I have a steadfast obsession with two things: skulls and Hello Kitty (a la this post). I don't want to go into an analysis of why this is, but maybe it has to do with the whole opposites attract idea. What I am sure of is that this pirate bling is 100% badass:

But first, it's Turkey Time

Unlike Kate Moss, I can't wait to stuff my face with stuffing. Off to DC later today to commence the culinary preparations. Alissa left for Brooklyn where she gets to indulge in her grandmother's mouth-watering Italian creations. Happy Thanksgiving!

It's Snowtime

Well, almost. And when it does, it's harder to look cute. But I've taken the time make your winter wardrobe shopping a little less dismal. Who doesn't want to look super cute on the bunny slopes!? I've never gone skiing, but if I go in the near future, I want to look cute to make up for my lack of skiing skills. It's hard to find a winter coat that is elegant, awesome, AND that keeps you warm. I think this MJ coat encompasses all three of these elements; it's neither too frumpy nor too prissy. And I'm a sucker for olive green. Earmuffs and mittens are my number one essentials during the winter. Warm ears and hands make alllll the difference, especially when trekking through the brutal Boston wind. Then you've got your boots -- they've got to be waterproof and have some kind of insulation. The Hunter Adley Boot is a well-balanced, weather-proof and warm option that doesn't look too clunky. I like the excuse to wear darker nail polish colors, they're just more badass and fun, especially with a little glitter mixed in.

Currently Pining Over...

Zara scarves. I'm a huge fan of Zara in general, but they've got their ish popping this time around with this delectable array of neck candy. Just like you can never have too many pairs of jeans (or jewelry or handbags or shoes), you can never have too many scarves. Wear them this way or that way, add some flavor to any outfit, and keep your poor neck warm when it gets frigid outside! Check out the full monty here.
